This is what I’d spend it on!

So I woke up this morning and the alarm clock wasn’t working… but the lights came on when I flicked the switch so I knew it wasn’t a power cut (…alarm clock on the blink I thought). Stumbled into the kitchen… kettle not working, hmmmm. Must be a blown fuse, better sort that quick because all our guest will be getting up too… and it was flipping freezing, heating hadn’t come on.

The main trip switch on the fuse box was down, and just kept retripping every time I flicked it. I’m not much of a morning person so this stumped me! Andy came to the rescue and we managed to get all but the ground floor sockets back on (central heating and ovens working but no power to fridges, toaster, etc in kitchen). With no more time to fuss about I prepared breakfast as best I could, running back and forth to the bedroom to boil the kettle! Our guests seemed none the wiser thankfully. Only one of them had awoken before the power was reset.

Our friendly electrician friend happen to pop by mid morning (just to pick up a key) we explained the quandary and after 4 hours of unscrewing sockets and playing round with wires (becoming more and more flummoxed by the thing) he finally found the source of our problem. Inside one of the wall sockets was a mass of yellowy-brown sticky slimy goo. A slug had crawled in through a little hole and bridged the neutral and live pins!

Please help yourself from the breakfast table from a choice of cereals, fresh fruit, natural yoghurt and chilled fruit juices. 

We will bring tea or coffee to your table. Please let us know if you prefer it decaffeinated or with hot milk. We also have a selection of fruit teas and hot chocolate.

 Full English Breakfast

Hand made pork sausage, thick cut back bacon, grilled tomato, buttered mushrooms, free range fried egg, and brown or white toast.

 Vegetarian Full English

Hand made vegan sausage, grilled tomato, buttered mushrooms, haloumi cheese, free range fried egg, and brown or white toast.

 Poached Eggs

Two free range poached eggs lightly seasoned, with or without bacon, served on a toasted English muffin.

 Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs

Lightly scrambled free range eggs, with strips of Scottish smoked salmon served with brown or white toast.

 Hearty Porridge

Simply porridge oats cooked with milk and served with honey.

 Our Ingredients

We only buy fairtrade teas and our coffee is freshly ground to order from fairtrade organic beans. Our free range eggs are from Poundhead farm in Wimbourne, our tomatoes are from nearby Romsey (when in season) and we only use Dorset mushrooms. Our pork sausages are handmade by Springfield butchers in Poole.

Ok, so I’m going to try to start communicating semi-regularly on this here Tumblr thing, not sure how long it will last, or if anyone will be remotely interested but I feel that I’ve been silently enjoying everyone else’s posts for far too long. So here goes. Anna x
